Here at Pickled Barrel, we like helping you {and ourselves!} save money. We went looking for more ways to save money on everyday things, and today we are sharing what we found. There are a lot of everyday items that you shouldn’t pay for, but today we’ll focus on 10 of them. Remember, everything you don’t have to buy equals more money in your pocket. Click through to see the 10 things you should never buy!
1.The first thing you should never buy is Wi-Fi service to use away from home. So many places offer free Wi-Fi, that there really is no good reason to pay for it. Plan ahead and make your large downloads and uploads when you’re at home on your own Wi-Fi network.
2. Are you still paying for bottled water? If so, it’s definitely time to stop. Get a refillable bottle that will keep your water cold all day, and don’t pay for bottled water again. Tip: The Simple Modern Wave really will hold ice all day long!
3. Don’t pay for bank fees. If you are, take a look around, because there are banks that will give you free checking. There’s no reason to pay for it.
4. With all the completely free-to-borrow books available at your local library {e-books, too!} you don’t need to spend money to indulge your reading habit. See The Balance for more on how to get free e-books.
5. You do need to check your credit report every so often, but you don’t need to pay for it. Every consumer is entitled to one free credit report each year, per the federal government.
6. If you need computer programs but can’t afford the expensive suite of Microsoft software, don’t worry. Google Drive has so many great components {all free} that you’re covered. See Cloudwards for a great Google Drive tutorial.
7. Just like bottled water, bagged ice is really something you shouldn’t pay for, especially when you’re just using it to keep your water bottle cold. Use ice trays and good old tap water.
8. If you have internet, there’s really no point paying for print news any longer, especially if you’re looking for ways to cut expenses. See Lifewire for the best places to get online news.
9. You shouldn’t pay for long distance phone calls any longer. Video calling services like Skype or FaceTime have made long distance calling unnecessary.
10. Before you fork out for museum tickets, look into what days your local museums are offering free admission. Most all museums have free days, or even free weekends, so there is no need to buy admission. Check out The Penny Hoarder for more on free museum days.
