It seems that most everyone is interested in farmhouse style, but not everyone knows how to incorporate it into their own home. If you fall into that category, I’m glad you stopped by today, because I’m about to show you how to decorate a shelf {farmhouse style}.
How To Decorate A Shelf {Farmhouse Style}
The first thing to know about how to decorate a shelf is that you don’t have to run to the newest home store to purchase all new accessories–unless you want to. Seriously, you should first “shop” around your own home. Take a good look at all the accessories you have in each room of your home. Are there things that have been in the same spot for years? Breathe new life into stuff you already have, just by relocating it and using it in a new way.
How To Use What You Already Have
Here is a sample of the things you should look for as you “shop” around the house, and ways to use them:
- Many of us have boxes of old books tucked away. Dig into those and grab a few to decorate your shelf. Display them either stacked or upright, alone or with a small figurine on top.
- How many cake stands do you own? They are amazing for decorating a shelf! Don’t be afraid to use several different sizes, and stack them for more interest.
- Small houseplants and succulents are a must to decorate a shelf farmhouse style. They don’t have to be real if you don’t feel confident about that. Look for faux plants that seem real.
- Old canning jars and glass bottles are also good accessories for a farmhouse style shelf. Vintage colored glass is even better. If you don’t own any, they are easy to find at local thrift shops. Use them to house cotton stems or silk roses.
- Vintage scales are a popular farmhouse style accessory.
- Pillar candles of assorted sizes work well. Group them in threes for the most appeal.
Now that you know how to decorate a shelf {farmhouse style}, see what you can find at home. Don’t be afraid to experiment with unusual ways of using what you already have. Have fun with it!
